To Intersection Staff, Committee and assorted interested parties (and anyone else who wants to know as this is for public consumption), This week's Intersection news & gossip : Stop Press - Pass along Funds ============================= While visiting the Tun last week ConAdian chairman John Mansfield told Martin that the 94 Worldcon will soon be giving out it's pass-along-funds contributions. I'm delighted to say that Intersection will receive roughly $CDN 15,000 ! Three cheers for ConAdian! Final word on WWW (for now) ================= Having totally misled you all last week and been corrected from several directions I will humbly admit that I'm not a WWW expert - yes you can look at our ever expanding WWW pages from any email system. Just send a message to agora@mail.w3.org with no subject and in the body of the message the following text : SEND http://www.dcs.gla.ac.uk/intersection/ Thanks to Martin and David Levine for correcting me. Mentioned in dispatches ======================= Gytha produced a report on the Extravaganzas division this week - nice to see how it is all coming together. It's the first week of the month so get those divisional reports in ! Meetings ======== The first of two stuffing sessions took place at TR's under blizzard conditions at the weekend. All the non-US PR5's with various forms (including the hotel form) were prepared. The US ones will be completed next weekend and it is planned that all 4700 will have been posted before Boskone. This means that the bulk of the PRs will arrive around the third week of February ! The plans for the Glasgow meeting on 25/26th are coming together. Details in Margaret's emailed message which was sent out this past weekend. Things too numerous to mention ============================== Mark and Bernie meet with Concorde Services (who will be processing our hotel bookings) in the SECC tomorrow armed with the revised Hotel booking procedures, to dot the "i"'s and cross the "t"'s. Hopefully the CS offices will be dry after their drenching over the New Year holidays! - Welcome back to Margaret and Paul who are recovering from bugs caught in exotic places (Egypt and Croydon ). - Discussions on the Souvenir book, it's cover and its ad rates have increased so much that we may have to set up a special distribution list for this to make sure no one gets left out. - While doing some analysis on our member trends I looked at past Worldcons and discovered that Conspiracy (the 1987 Brighton Worldcon, for those of you still in nappies at the time) took 1004 new attendings in the last 3 months of which 620 were in the British Isles! Martin commented - "Conspiracy's publicity in the UK was very good but they targeted a different set of people than just the existing fans. They did a poster campaign to bookshops and Libraries with an excellent large colour poster as the centrepiece. This is the type of campaign that Claire is about to launch in the UK. We had assumed that we were running late on this and that our UK figures would be under our target. The fact that Conspiracy put on 600 members in the last three months is surprising and encouraging." We have about 1000 UK members currently and we hope to get as many as Conspiracy's 2200 so get the word out ! (If anyone wants the detailed Conspiracy figures let me know and I'll email them to you.) - Finally, please feel able to send me any message you would like to have circulated in these weekly mailings. That's all for this week. Remember, only 28 (smoffing) weeks till Intersection ! V
