The Gremlin, which on the cover art holds a sign saying "wanna bet" instead of the paintbrush shown on the cake, is a reference to the Hugo Nominated slide show "The Capture" by Bob Asprin and Phil Foglio in which the (non) existence of a Gremlin is a running joke.
