THE NEWS FROM SUSSEX

Lucy Sussex notes " This year's Youth Literature section of the
Victorian Writer's Festival in October will have the theme of 'What
if?' and will nod in the direction of sf. All Australian authors
invited either appear in the Omnibus sf anthologies, or have written
young adult sf: Victor Kelleher, Gillian Rubinstein, Cathy Jinks,
Brian Caswell, L. Sussex. British author Annie Dalton will also
guest." Lucy's novel DEERSNAKE is due for release in July (Lucy
feels this date optimistic) and has a Marilyn Pride cover. Lucy is
collecting nominations for next year's Tiptree award. She wants
examples of Oz sf or fantasy, published in 1994, short or long
fiction, that explore notions of gender. Info 13 Frederick Street,
Brunswick, VIC 3056.

NICHOLLS ON HUGO BALLOT

Conadian, the 1994 Worldcon, has released the Hugo ballot form. The
only Australian presence is Peter Nicholls co-editor of THE
ENCYCLOPEDIA OF SCIENCE FICTION Full details in Thyme #97 (see
below) which also lists the 1994 Nebula Award winners. (Thylacon GoH
Kim Stanley Robinson picked up best novel for RED MARS ) Two
Australians in Fanthology

Mark Loney is planning to have two Australians represented in the
1990 Fanthology—Bruce Gillespie & Michelle Muijsert. Fanthologies are
published for Corflu, the annual fanzine fan convention.

BBS

Echo Base Hoth is a Victorian SF Bulletin Board, operating 24 hours
per day on (03) 563-1323. It is a Fidonet node and seems like a
pleasant place to visit, apart from the fact that its Sysop can't
spell Literature.
