PEOPLE & PUBLISHING

Lucy Sussex & Judith Buckrich's anthology SHE'S FANTASTICAL
has been nominated for the World Fantasy Award for Best
Anthology, and Petrina Smith's"Angel Thing" from the
anthology made the ballot for Best Short Story.

PEOPLE

Edwina Harvey notes "Marianne Plumridge, Peter Lupinski,
Alex de Vos, Edwina Harvey, Sue Pears and Greg Rich will be
presenting their second annual art show and sale over the
weekend 14/15 September. This year the show will be held at
the CWA hall on Main Street (old Hume Highway) Mittagong,
(approx two hours drive south of Sydney or north of
Canberra) The show will feature paintings, prints, cards,
glass etching, leadlight, ceramics & pottery. Everyone
welcome! As we are all SF fans, science fiction and fantasy
are recurring themes in our work." Terry Frost mentioned
that Smithfield regular Jim Nomaris is competing in the
pistol events at the Para-Olympics in Atlanta.

BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

George Ivanoff has had his first television speaking part.
He appeared in Neighbours 9/8/96 as a pot delivery man.
According to Ian Gunn, who watched the episode ( Gunny
claims that this is the first episode he's ever watched)
George had three lines, all delivered in a broad Strine
accent. "Give us a break lady", "She told me to bring 'em in
'ere" and"Fine by me". Gunny also notes that George's name
does appear in the credits - just above the dog's.
Irwin Hirsh got a letter about the ABC cuts into The Age
Green Guide 8/8/96. You can't keep a good letterhack down.
There is a piece on Arthur C. Clarke in The Weekend
Australian August 17-18/8/96. It relates mainly to the
release of 3001 next year.

UPCOMING CONVENTIONS
Tim Jones tells me that the NZ Queens Birthday Long weekend
was in June, so the Constellation entry has disappeared.
A posting to aus.sf.star-trek by Carl Hudson notes "
Starland (Starfest Conventions) are bringing George Takei
and Marc Alaimo (DS9) to Adelaide in November. They are
planning a big 30th Anniversary celebration." Contact Carl
on carl@adam.com.au for more details.
