GOOD NEWS

Lots of engagements in the air. First, congratulations to Merv
Binns & Helena Roberts who recently announced their engagement.
Congratulations also to Bev Hope and David Arblaster and to Beky
Tully and H. Gibbens.

BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

Damien Broderick reviews KINDS OF MINDS Dennett, HOW BRAINS THINK
Calvin and THE CONSCIOUS MIND Chalmers in The Weekend Australian's
The Weekend Review August 2-3. The same isue mentions the six week
sf writing course being run at the Victorian Writers' Centre in
Melbourne by Jack Dann from August 12. Damien has also been heard
on the radio by several Bullsheet correspondents, most recently on
August 12th on 3LO when he was interviewed about THE SPIKE and
then grilled by the talkback audience. Fiona Capp reviews Lucy
Sussex's BLACK ICE in The Age 9/8/97 Garth Nix notes "I've just
been told that the 'Between the Lines' episode with me and Ben Bova
will now got to air on Wednesday the 27th of August, not the 13th."

AUSSIECON THREE

" This note is to announce the appointment of Julian Warner tothe
position of Division Head of the Administration Division.

This Division integrates those areas of a convention committee
normally associated with a title such as "secretariat". In this
case, however, the Division also includes the following areas:

Mail Room (Aust) - Justin Ackroyd
Correspondence - Julian Warner
Volunteers Database	- David Arblaster

It will also supervise the Con Office, the need for which will only
become relevant in the latter part of 1998."
Perry Middlemiss

CONVENTION NEWS

Multiverse has managed to snare Patrick Stewart for an evening.
Derek Screen reports "Patrick Stewart has agreed to a function with
us in Melbourne Sunday August 17th Hoyts Cinema Centre Melbourne.
For further details, check out the Enterprise Web Page or the
Multiverse Web Page http://www.vicnet.net.au/~multiver"

FAN FUNDS
Karen Pender Gunn notes that there will be a Guff race to send a
fan to the 1998 U.K. Eastercon. Nominations will open formally real
soon now, but, in the meantime, start lining up your nominators,
three from Australia and two from the U.K. if the standard
procedures are followed.

THE AULD LANG FUND
While talking of fan funds, we are delighted to announce the launch
of the Auld Lang Fund, to bring British author, fan and gossip Dave
Langford to Australia for Aussiecon Three. After having Bob Tucker
and the Tucker Bag for Aussiecon and Bob Shaw and the Shaw Fund for
Aussiecon Two, it was felt that we'd had our two bob's worth and it
was time for a Dave. The fund will be co-ordinated by Justin
Ackroyd, Carey Handfield, Eve & John Harvey and Marc Ortlieb.
Further details available soon, but be prepared to become a Friend
Of Old Langford.

FAN GOINGS ON

Andrew Johnson notes that, regarding his www.fandom.net site "All
fan related conventions & clubs are welcome to enter their own
listings on these pages. Both convention & club pages are clearly
shownon the main home page, http://www.fandom.net

The MSFC has shown signs of life. They're arguing over the use of
club mailing lists.
