A LIKELY STORY

Frederick Street Brunswick, known haunt of Lucy Sussex,
Julian Warner and the Nova Mob, gained its fifteen minutes
of mundane fame with the discovery of two skulls buried in
the garden of a house two down from Lucy & Julian's.
Lucy Sussex notes "At this moment police are digging
up the backyard of next door but one, because two skulls were
found when the tenant wanted to plant some trees. We have
the full media circus here, and I'm supposed to give a talk
on crime writing tonight. It's very peculiar.... I was on
the news (Ch7) on Sun 24th, chatting to a policeman. It
gave me quite a shock at the time, because I opened the
front door and there was the cop, and also a bright light,
from a cameraman, who was filming us from outside the
property. It was useful for the cop, because he thus got
enough light to take notes with (not that I had much to say,
having not lived there long). But I would happen to be
wearing my gardening trousers at the time....
Mark Loney was staying with us and got quite a
surprise to drive back into the media circus - helicopters,
news teams, journos phoning in copy from the front fence."
The skulls seem associated with Ananda Marga sect
rituals, or at least that's what the police are telling us.
Fortunately, they don't seem to know about the Nova Mob,
several members of which are well known for skulling.

SFTV

Robert Whyte notes that the SF media review show The 5th

following Saturday at 7pm. The show covers all media aspects
of Science Fiction and Fantasy, from comics, magazines and
books to films, television series, fan clubs and computer
and role playing games.

Still no sign of Progresss Report One which was due in the
middle of the year. Rumour has it that it was to be printed
in time for LoneStarCon2, but it hasn't been seen in
Australia yet.

CONVENTION NEWS

Swancon 23 has released its Progress report #3, including an
updated membership list and assorted useful information.

FAN GOINGS ON

Adelaide fan and triffid designer John Packer made a brief
visit to Melbourne in August. Usually reliable sources
suggest that two Melbourne fan couples are expecting the
patter of little feet. (These two news items are
unconnected...)
