Bloodsongs #9 has reached Australia. It includes fiction by Sean
Williams and a historical piece of fiction by Waif Wander, introduced
by Lucy Sussex. Steve Proposch reviews Richard Harland's The Dark
Edge.

BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

The Herald/Sun 21/11/97 had an article about Timestorm, including a
photo of Guest of Honour Sophie Aldred.

Jack Herman, in his role as executive secretary to the Australian
Press Council, has a letter dealing with Stuart Littlemore's comments
on the ABC's Lateline (Herald/Sun 26/11/97)

Linnet Hunter reviews Isobelle Carmody's Greylands in The Weekend
Australian November 29-30 1997. In the same issue, Damien Broderick
looks at Lee Smolin's The Life of the Cosmos and David Deutsch's The
Fabric of Reality

Nothing new to report.

GUNNY IS A HAM

Ian Gunn provides the following conundrum

"	Q: Why is Ian Gunn like a Christmas Ham?
A: Because he's pretty much cured!

Yes, folks after months of hair loss and out-of-stomach experiences,
Dr. Joe says "No more chemotherapy for you!" I'm cancer-free!
Yeehar!

The good doctor says that according to my CAT scan,
all those swollen tumorous glands have reverted to their original
size.

Well, okay there's still a few mysterious spots on the liver,
but Dr.Joe says not to worry about them, probably just harmless
little cysts, we'll have another CAT scan in a couple of months and
see what they're up to.

But generally, the news is good!

Now all I've got to do is grow my hair back, wait for the
tingling sensation in my toes and fingertips to pass and get my taste
buds back to normal.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. Karen and I
are both very happy.

Yours, in something resembling good health, Gunny"

CONVENTION NEWS

James Allen reports "Timestorm was a great little con, we had a lot
of fun and Sophie Aldred was a superb guest of Honour. We even had a
chance to see her husband's showreel at the closing ceremony (He is a
TV presenter in UK), which was fun. All went well and on time, except
for the auction, which over-ran its time (No surprise)"

The 1997 Double Gamma Awards, were presented at Timestorm

DAMIEN TALKS TO SCIENCE TEACHERS

Damien Broderick reports " Just sproiked (24 November) to the
assembled science educators of Victoria in their many hundreds,
giving the keynote address at their annual conference. I was scared
that my spikish message would alarm the teachers and precipitate
gales of derision, and I'd get the strap; not so. Made cheap fun of
Barry O. Jones (who'd reviewed The Spike poisonously a few weeks
back in a mid-week Oz). Kind applause, people approaching after
with warm smiles, etc. What fun. I really do need to get out more
often..."

(When I approached one of the Hawthorn Secondary College staff -
who'd been at the conference - for her opinion, she said "I couldn't
work out what the hell he was talking about.")

FAN MOVEMENTS

Cheryl Morgan headed back to the U.S. on December 2.

Jeanne Mealy from St Paul notes " Eric Lindsay was here last week
during a mild spell and missed our early dustings of snow. He was
relieved. Nice to see him! He came saling with us one night, in fact
(MN Public Radio catalogue sale)."

FAN FUNDS

Duff administrator Perry Middlemiss sends a correction to the
previous Bullsheet " Just a quick note to let you know that the DUFF
race for 1998 actually hasn't started yet, as implied in your latest
Bullsheet. We've merely extended the nomination period until the end
of December." Rumour has it that Terry Frost intends to stand, but
there are no reports of other nominees. Meanwhile the Deadline for
GUFF nominations has passed with no sign of any contenders. It looks
as though the next GUFF race will bring a European fan to Aussiecon
three. Nothing has been heard of FFANZ.
