BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

Jan Wilson was interviewed on 3LO on 14/5/99 in connection with
the launching of the new Star Wars merchandising and the new
movie. Both Shane Morrissey of Star Walking and Gavin Roberts
of Hyperspace got guest spots in coverage of The Phantom Menace
in The Age Good Weekend 15/5/99. The article also mentions The
Dark Redemption, the Star Wars prequel being shot by Sydney
fans, including model-maker and costumer Gary Armstrong. All
the usual suspects, including Multiverse and the Waverley
Hockey Club Junior Unit are organising group bookings to see
the film. The Australian 19/5/99 takes delight in recounting a
section from Sir Alec Guinness's autobiography in which Sir
Alec recounted the story of his encounter with one Star Wars
fan who'd seen the movie more than a hundred times. His comment
"I just hope the lad, now in his 30s, is not living in a
fantasy world of secondhand childish banalities." Jack Dann and
Janeen Webb appear on the cover of the most recent Locus, May
1999. Shaun Tan's illustrations for The Rabbits draw positive
comments in The Australian's Review of Books May 1999. Victor
Kelleher's Into the Dark gets an extensive review in The
Weekend Australian Review 15-16/5/99. Lucy Sussex notes "I have
a new job reviewing books for Francis Leach's Creatures show on
3JJJ, Sunday nights. First up I reviewed the Tenebran books."
Lucy notes that she soon had her first e-mail in response to
the show, "This is from Jane Routley in Denmark. It was my
first night and I was on for only 15 mins, so quite a
coincidence 'Dear Lucy,
Have you been on Triple J lately reviewing books? Terry
managed to tune the computer into Triple J last Sunday and
there was someone on there reviewing books whose voice sounded
distinctly like yours. We've got no way of being sure however
because the reception was very bad, but we were curious."
Damien Broderick will do a spot on Occam's Razor, on
Radio National, on Sunday May 23rd. His book The Last Mortal
Generation, rated number 3 in the New Scientist's List of
Melbourne's best selling science books for the week.

SCIENCE FICTION ART VENUE
Ed Catmull notes the establishment of The Outworld Art Cafe at
533 Church Street Richmond Vic 3121. It provides facilities for
social gatherings and for science fiction artists to display
their art. Normal trading hours are 6:30am to 4:00pm Monday to
Friday with other hours available to Clubs. Ed can be contacted
at (W) 9427 9262 or (H) 9790 0239.

AIRLIE BEACH FANDOM INCREASES
Jean Weber notes "W.A. fan, artist and medico Craig Hilton has
augmented the Airlie Beach fan community, previously
represented only by Jean Weber and Eric Lindsay. Craig arrived
on 8 May to work at a local medical practice. Julia will join
him after Aussiecon."

BULLSHEET UNCLASSIFIEDS

Jeremy G Byrne jeremy@iz.org notes " Since the first batch of
PsiPhi shirts was released at the post-ICon demi-Annual Danny
Go Home Pancake Pigout, a number of people have hassled me to
print more, and to provide sizes other than XL. In any case,
this isn't making me any money, although $4 from every $20
t-shirt will be going to assist the "SwanCon 2001 for NatCon
Bid" at the WorldCon (thanks to SwanCon 2000's Team Twenty3 for
their kind forbearance).
These shirts are "Australian Made" with a 36cm PsiPhi
symbol (a large Greek Psi symbol joined vertically to a Greek
Phi symbol--yes, it's a pun on "Sci-Fi") in fluorescent,
glows-under-blacklight green on the front.
Please contact me via email with your size(s)--Small,
Medium, Large, XL--numbers and whether you'd like to arrange to
pick the shirt(s) up from me directly or from some central
location like the UniSFA clubroom. (I'll need orders for at
least ten shirts in order to go ahead, BTW). Thanks! "
