PHANTASIA SCIENCE FICTION & MYSTERY BOOKSHOP FISSIONS!
The latest PhaNews notes that Phantasia Books has spawned a new shop
at 270a Old Northern Road Castle Hill NSW. (02) 9634 1455. As part
of the opening celebrations, they have a dual author book signing
with Timothy Zahn and Michael Stackpole signing at both shops on
June 19th.

IN PRINT

Arrow have just released The Cursed Towers, book three in Kate
Forsyth's "The Witches of Eileasnan" series.

IN ELECTRONS

Ellen Datlow notes that Chris Lawson's short story "Unborn Again"
is now online at: http://www.eventhorizon.com/sfzine/fiction/unborn/index.html

Chris Lawson notes in addition to that "This story has also been
selected for Gardner Dozois' YEAR'S BEST SCIENCE FICTION 16, which
should be out later this year, and made it onto the Recommended
Reading List for the Datlow/ Windling YEAR'S BEST FANTASY & HORROR,
as well as the LOCUS Recommended Reading List for 1998.

Simon Brown said some nice things about it on the Eidolon SF Online
site, although I'm not sure you can trust the recommendations of a
man who posed for a publicity shot taking a drag on a cigarette. I
bet the fag's a Gitane and Simon's hoping it makes him look like a
French Existentialist philosopher :-)

Another story of mine called "Written in Blood" has just been
printed in the June 1999 Asimov's. Much to my delight it has already
been picked up for the Broderick & Hartwell anthology Centaurus: The
Best Of Australian SF, which Tor is bringing out in the next few
weeks."

Alan Stewart noted that James Allen and Neil Murray were contestants
on Who Wants to be a Millionaire on 8/6/99. Not the fans, but the
coincidence of names was amusing.

ON THE TUBE

Adrian Sherlock reports "This is an update on Damon Dark, the new SF
series being produced by Adrian Sherlock. Six episodes have been
shot and the pilot has been completed and submitted to Channel 31's
programming department. A possible time slot is 8PM Fridays around
late August, early September. The series follows Damon Dark, a
member of the shadowy government organisation called Department Six.
He and fellow agents are at war with mysterious, enigmatic invaders,
"shape- changing, telepathic aliens". The episodes are as follows:

"TIMESLIP". Damon Dark and Candice Ryan arrive at the offices of
Department Six only to find that it has been knocked out in an alien
attack. Their only chance of survival is the possibility of a "hole
in time".

"MADDOX" (PARTS 1,2,3+4) Damon and Veruca Stone investigate the
enigmatic business man and media tycoon Simon Maddox and discover
that he has complicated connections to an alien plan to take control
of powerful members of the political and business worlds, and to
unleash a super-virus that will destroy much of the human population
of Earth.

"IT'S AFTER ME!" Damon is trapped, hiding from an alien assassin
that is hunting him. In flash back we learn how the creature came to
kill him while he was staying at his mother's house. The creature is
able to assume a human shape and Damon learns something of the
aliens' pitiless nature.

GREG EGAN'S FANTASIES REVEALED

In aus.sf, Greg Egan made the following statement.which I reproduce
here, totally out of context "I can't speak for other writers, but
all my own fantasies of making it revolve around the Drygoods
Subcommittee of the Victorian Mensuration and Labelling Authority.
I have their TV Week poster on my bedroom wall, and they are TOTAL
SPUNKRATS." Other authors are invited to bear their souls in equally
revealing ways.

BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

Sally Rogers-Davidson's Spare Parts is reviewed in the Sunday Age
6/6/99 Jack Dann gets the best part of a page in The Weekend
Australian June 12-13 1999 De Forest Kelly's death was widely
reported.

FAN FUNDS

Renaldo's FFANZ Trip report has been recognised by LACon's Fan Fund
Rewards Scheme, and LACon has donated $US500 to FFANZ. Renaldo's
human accomplices, Phil & Frances report that there doesn't seem to
be a FFANZ race for 1999 - perhaps next year.
Duff winner Janice Gelb notes "The time for my DUFF trip is fast
approaching! I will be arriving in Melbourne the morning of August
3. I will be staying with Stephen Boucher during my time in
Melbourne, and the only things I know for sure I'm doing there are
the Nova Mob meeting and a footy game"

AUSSIECON THREE

Lucy Sussex notes "The Tiptree Fund has presented Freddie Baer with
a Fairy Godmother Award so she can go to the Worldcon in Australia
this summer." (Freddie is a Hugo Nominee in the Fan Artist
Category.)

ANDREW Porter, in an e-mail to John Bangsund, notes "Do you know
anything about Melbourne B&B's? I'm looking for a non-hotel type
place to stay for several days before the convention. Also, I'm
curious whether you know anyone who has the time to show me the
sights in the Melbourne area before the con."Andrew's e-mail address
is SF_CHRONICLE@compuserve.com

Cheryl Morgan observes "Well, Kevin and I sort of have to be there.
Something to do with a couple of Worldcon bids we are running."

JOVE NODS BULLSHEET HAPPENS

Damien Broderick notes "Just saw yr cite of my comment on radio
gigs. I hastily misspelled Koval as Kova, and feel embarrassed.
Guess there's nuthin you can do to correct what's already posted,
but if there's a print version still in process, a correction would
be good."

BULLSHEET OPINION POLL

In recent discussions in the aus.sf newsgroup, I had occasion to
describe Justin Ackroyd as a book pusher.
David Syber, lept to his defence saying "Justin is not a 'book
pusher.' He is a book retailer! It's the difference between an M.D.
and a supplier."
Steve Taylor begged to differ. "Justin is so a book pusher. How
many times have I innocently wandered in, with no intention of
blowing my disposable income for the week, when Justin pulls out a
rare small press R.A. Lafferty book from behind the counter, and in
an oh so innocent voice asks if I'm interested? That's entrapment
dammit!"

So the Bullsheet Poll for this issue is

Is Justin Ackroyd a book pusher? Replies to the Bullsheet, either
snail- mail or e-mail by July 13th please.
