Congratulations to SHAUN TAN who won the Community Relations 
Commission Literary Award for the 2007 NSW Premier's Literary Awards 
for his wordless graphic novel, "The Arrival." Shaun also seems to 
have caused something of a controversy by being awarded a literary

CHUCK MCKENZIE recently became manager of Angus & Robertson bookshop, 
Frankston. If you live in the Frankston area and you want a 
sympathetic, knowledgeable bookshop worker who can source that hard 
to get book, or suggest other authors or titles you might like to 
read, go see Chuck! He's also keen to promote Australian spec fic 
authors. From 1st June, Chuck will be publishing a newsletter every

MELBOURNE BRICKIES AND EBAY TEACHERS WANTED! In a recent open letter 
to his many correspondents (dated April 07, so possibly these matters 
have resolved themselves by now) Merv Binns (q.v) mentioned his brick 
letterbox and part of his (presumably brick. EH) front fence were in 
need of repair. Is there anyone in Melbourne competent in brick-work 
who could volunteer a weekend to help Merv rectify this problem? 
Similarly, is there a volunteer to teach Merv and Helena how to 
become e-bay sellers? (I've always admired the community spirit shown

WRAPPING UP OF THE BBB FUND. Anyone who contributed $25 or more to

MATCH: 
Australian writer, SEAN WILLIAMS recently married AMANDA NETTLEBECK 
in Adelaide. 

DEATHS:
LLOYD ALEXANDER, YA fantasy author, passed away on 18th May. His wife 
of more than 6o years, Janine, pre-deceased him by 2 weeks. His last 
book, The Golden Dream of Carlo Chuchio, will be published in August.

SERIOUSLY ILL:
Australian writer TERRY DARTNELL had an unsuccessful Whipple 
Procedure (an operation to remove cancer from the pancreas) with 
complications of perforated intestine and abscess in the stomach 
cavity. He is too weak for visitors or phone calls, but his wife, 
Wendy, is passing on get-well messages. You can e-mail your messages

RECOVERING: 

ANDY PORTER, prominent American fan, Antipodean enthusiast and 
Bullsheet reader, is undergoing chemotherapy following an operation 
for cancer.

MERV BINNS, prominent Australian fan, former manager of Space Age 
Books, returned home on 5th April, and is slowly recovering following 
triple by-pass heart surgery followed by a bout of pneumonia in 
March. (Reported in an open letter from Merv Binns dated April 2007.)

TOLKIEN SEMINAR: 25th August, 2007. NSW Writers Centre, Rozelle, 
Sydney. As the first Tolkien seminar to be held outside the UK, this 
event is endorsed by the Tolkien Society. To get updates of this

Tolkien Society is also calling for papers on Middleearth to be 
presented at this seminar. Speakers should be looking at having their
