Denver 2008 Staff Biographies:
Sheila McClune
Sheila’s
first science fiction convention was a Doctor Who convention in the
early 1980s, where she won the Hitchhiker’s Guide trivia
contest. That led to her discovery of the world of science
fiction fandom, where she was delighted to find many kindred
spirits. Her first Worldcon was Noreascon 3 in 1989. Since
then, she has attended eight other Worldcons, and has worked as a
volunteer at several. She has helped with the Masquerade, worked
at the Information desk, and helped with cleanup/breakdown.
Locally, she has been Webmaster for MileHiCon (where they are still
using many of the design elements she introduced); she is a frequent
Art Show and Registration volunteer there as well. She also
stepped in at the last minute to run the Masquerade at the infamous
“DonnerCon,” the MileHiCon where a blizzard hit town on
Friday of the convention, closing the city and trapping attendees in
the hotel. In addition to MHC, she regularly attends COSine and
Opus, and wishes there were more local conventions she could attend.
When not planning for or attending conventions, Sheila has plenty of
things to keep her busy. She is an aspiring Regency romance
novelist, an avid amateur photographer, and enjoys cooking and doing
beadwork. She dabbles in costuming and has just purchased a
pottery wheel. She is also active in the SCA, where she organizes
and runs events, researches cooking and renaissance dance, and
enjoys woodworking and lampworking, among other things. She works
as a data analyst for a non-profit membership association.
