Filia Mea is not one of my favorite paintings. It is my favorite painting, at least of anything I have ever done. I had been asked to do a book cover based on the events in the book's first chapter. Apparently the editors had missed the fact that the heroine was pregnant and gave birth to twins at the end of the chapter. But thinking that they wanted a pregnant heroine on the cover, I planned to provide one. I went to my favorite model, Jennifer, whom I hadn't seen in a while, thinking I could just pad her with some pillows. To my surprise, she was eight months pregnant. I thought that was extremely accomodating of her and said so. Then I called the editors back to tell them how excited I was to have found the perfect model. To make a long story short, they refused to let me show that Jennifer was pregnant. So, I did Filia Mea [Latin for Daughter Mine] on my own just to celebrate how beautiful she looked. She is holding her daughter Maddy. Baby Jasmine is less visible but definitely there as well.
