SO WHO READS NEW SCIENTIST?
Perth fan Don Griffith and Melbourne fan Marc Ortlieb won Compaq
notepad computers in a recent New Scientist promotion. No skill
required, New Scientist gave out free fortune cookies with an issue
early this year and, by sending the fortune in, one was entered in the
draw. For this winner, the joy was slightly alloyed. They typoed my
name. Greg Egan also reads New Scientist. In the issue 8/10/94 he
provides an answer to the question of why there are simultaneous
high tides on opposite sides of the earth.
THYLACON SIGHTING CONFIRMED
Robin Johnson & Keith Curtis, part of the Tasmanian branch of the
Thylacon committee were sighted in Melbourne on 7/10/94. They were
reportedly searching for a creature as shy and elusive as the thylacon
itself, Stephen Boucher, the convention co-chairman
