THE AUSTRALIAN SCIENCE FICTION BULLSHEET #27 – MARCH 3 1995

Australian National Science Fiction Association by Marc Ortlieb, P.O. Box 215,
Forest Hill, Vict, 3131, AUSTRALIA (e-mail: Marc_A._Ortlieb@ausom.oz.au. Please
note the change).

TURNER & EGAN SHORTLISTED FOR TIPTREES
Lucy Sussex reports that this year's Tiptree Award winners are Nancy Springer
for her novel LARQUE ON THE WING and Ursula LeGuin for her short story
'The Matter of Seggri' (in Crank). ".Shortlistees included George Turner
for GENETIC SOLDIER and Greg Egan for the short story 'Cocoon'
(Asimov's). Nancy Springer got a clay Lark mask by Michaela Roessner
plus cheque. Ursula got cheque plus a chocolate computer terminal filled
with truffles. Judges' decision ( Pat Murphy, Lucy Sussex , Brian Attebury,
Ellen Kushner and Susanna Sturgis) was unanimous and amiable. Potlatch (where
the award took place) turned out to be a small but fun convention. I have
photos, which include a famous writer with a paper bag over her head, and
another famous writer gagged."

IN PRINT
Irwin Hirsh had a somewhat incomprehensible letter in The Green Guide 16/2/95.
Terry Dowling reviewed Sean Williams' Doorway to Eternity in The Weekend
Australian 18-19/2/95.

THYLACON FLIGHT
If there is enough interest, Steve Roylance might be able to arrange a private
flight to Thylacon. The plane is as twin-engined Piper Chieftan. Donations of
about $160 towards costs. About six places would be available. Contact Steve
on (03) 885-6348 (home). Steve assures me that the pilot's name is not
Vallantine

DONNA HEENAN DEPORTED
Donna beat Write-In for the 1995 FFANZ trip to New Zealand and will be
attending ConQuest '95 where she will promote the Australia in '99 WorldCon
bid. The bid continues to maintain a strong profile in the U.S. but very
little here in Australia. Complaints about this should be addressed to the
local publicity officer Marc Ortlieb. The Australian Branch of the Costumers
guild have promised that, should we win the Worldcon, they will conduct the
Masquerade according to international costuming standards.

ENTERPRISING ACTIVITY
Enterprise is running a raffle to benefit the Royal Children's Hospital. The
prize is a video tape collection of every Star Trek episode and every TNG
episode. P.O. Box 466 World Trade Centre Melbourne 3005

EREWAN TAKEN AWAY
The Erawan restaurant, usual eating place for Nova Mob members was converted
into a take-away only. Alan Stewart and Donna Heenan will be investigating
alternatives. In the meantime the meetings start at 8pm at Alan's place. Phone
for details. (Bruce Gillespie was so annoyed by this development that he turned
around and went home last month, missing the meeting altogether.)

CONVENTION GETS FREE PLUG
Eagle-eyed correspondent Cath Ortlieb noted a truck advertising the Aussiecon
Reunion Convention. At least, it had ARCON on its side. (Any further research,
to show that ARCON is the company name for an engineering company or an
interior decorators will be given the appropriate noncommittal response.)
ARcon, meanwhile has approached Jean Weber to produce a third Aussiecon
Memorial Fanzine. Contributions of material may be sent to ARCon, preferably
as text files, or clear photographs.

JOVE NODS, BULLSHEET HAPPENS
Sorry. The corrected date for the Robert Llewellyn signing - March 24th, went
out with the electronic version of the Bullsheet, but not the printed version.
(A couple of my students at Hawthorn Secondary College don't read The
Bullsheet. They were caught wagging. They were going to the signing, but went
one day early!) Said students reported huge lines around the ABC shop, but
their persistence paid off, with signed copies.
