HALF A TON
Yep. with this issue The Bullsheet reaches its fifty. Two and a
bit years for a half-century? Jees, it's as slow as a Pommie
batsman :-)
RODGER DARD
Grant Stone notes
" Received news this afternoon that Rodger Dard died last
week. The circumstances are rather ugly in that he needed some
radiation treatment and according to the family source I was
speaking to he died, in some agony, of 'radiation poisoning'.
Rodger was a longtime fan of Sf concerned in recent years more
with the beginnings (1920's to 1950's) of sf and fandom. His
unique contribution was the first fanzine from WA 'Star Rover'
- only the one issue - in 1953. At this time he was an active
correspondent and published from Victoria Park (an inner city
suburb of Perth) a directory of Australasian fans. Leo J.
Harding (our much lover author Lee H.) said in 'Waste Basket' -
his fanzine of the time - that Rodger was 'Australia's foremost
fan'. Hyperbole aside he will be much missed. In recent years
he had made contact with a number of current fans through his
ongoing interest in comics.
From the scant information I have received so far Murdoch may
benefit from his estate with the donation of materials from his
library. Rodger had quite a library including a near complete
set of the pulp issues of 'Astounding' in good condition, as
well as some art from the pulps. I will keep you all informed
as to what transpires but for the moment I still reeling from
the shock of Rodger's untimely death. I am also regretting
missed opportunities as though we met on a few occasions (and
one memorable Saturday afternoon, a few years ago, at his flat)
I never recorded An interview with him about the Sfnal 1950's
in WA. "
KIM HUETT TO BE CORFLUED

March. His itinerary takes in Nashville, Minneapolis, Seattle
and San Francisco.
