PEOPLE
John Howard may not like Canberra, but others seem to be adding to its
population, notably Kim Lambert, whose son, Lindsay Lambert, was born
on June 16th. Ex-Tasmanian fan Giulia de Cesare is to marry British
fan Steve Davies, he edited Intersection's newsletter, Voice of the
Mysterons. They will be in Australia in January.
BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
Robert Jan and Paula Ruzek continue their rise as the oracles of
science fiction in the mainstream press. They got the cover feature in
View , the Sunday Age television guide (30/6/96) with an article
about sf television which pushed the opinion that Babylon 5 was the
best thing since sliced bread. Meantime, in connection with the Sunday
showing of the new Dr Who movie, Richard Nolan, President of the Dr
Who Club of Victoria, gets quoted in the Age's Green Guide 4/7/96.
(He mentions the comedians who have appeared in Dr Who, but forgets
John Cleese!) Not to be outdone, Sydney's Dallas Jones gets a mention
in The Weekend Australian July 6-7. For the record, I thought the new
Dr Who movie was over-American and played more like Highlander II
meets Terminator 2 than it did like real Dr Who, despite minor touches
of the original. Getting back to serious stuff, Damien Broderick
reviews an assortment of real science books in the Australian's
Weekend Review July 6-7, mentioning, among others, Stephen Jay
Gould's Dinosaur in a Haystack and Carl Sagan's The Demon-Haunted
World. It's a science fiction sort of a week in The Australian. In the
same issue, Phillip Adams demolishes the coy "It's not real...but it
could be" attitude of The X-Files.

JOVE NODS, BULLSHEET HAPPENS
For some reason the electronic versions of the previous edition went
out as #57, when they were, in fact, #56. No doubt the same gremlin
was responsible for my adding an "e" to Sue Ann Barber's name.

DEADLINE FOR #58
Tuesday July 23rd.
Distribution Friday July 26th
A reminder that I am always interested in updated information on clubs
and club activities for the Bullsheet and for the Vicnet Science
Fiction Web Pages.
If you are involved in a club, check out the details here or on
http://vicnet.net.au/~sfoz and see how accurately I have represented
your club. Vicnet also offers free space for Victorian clubs and
organisations so please feel free to send me, in electronic format, a
page or so about your club and a gif or jpeg file of your club's logo
for inclusion on the web page. Even if you don't have easy access to a
web site, you can get your club represented on the web.
This Fanzine supports the Minneapolis bid for the 1973 World Science
Fiction Convention.
