PEOPLE & PUBLISHING
Proving that it is possible to work from Australia, Jack Dann
reports
"White Wolf has bought COUNTING COUP, my road novel. I think of
it as if On The Road written as magical realism. It will be a
December 1996 release. They have also bought a short story
collection entitled JUBILEE AND OTHER STORIES, to be published in
1997. This will be a big book, containing all my major work since
Timetipping.
THE MEMORY CATHEDRAL will be published in August by Gustav Lubbe
Verlag in Germany. It has been given second fiction place behind
Ken Follet. It has also recently sold to Hungary, the Czech
Republic, and Russia.
Recently sold short fiction includes "The Hanging" to Heartlands,
a mainstream anthology edited by Peter Crowther and Edward E.
Kramer, and "Blind Eye," to Science Fiction Age.
Gardner Dozois and I also turned in TIMEGATES to Ace Books. Our
anthology HACKERS should also be out from Ace Books this year.
I'm also co-editing The White Wolf Rediscovery Trios. The first
volume, THREE IN TIME, to be published in the spring of 1997, is
devoted to the theme of time travel and includes Chad Oliver's THE
WINDS OF TIME (introduced by George Zebrowski), Wilson Tucker's
THE YEAR OF THE QUIET SUN (introduced by Pamela Sargent), and
Poul Anderson's THERE WILL BE TIME (introduced by Jack Dann).
Future White Wolf Rediscovery Trios will include the themes of
space travel and post-apocalypse futures."
VALE
My deepest sympathies to Merv Binns, whose father Ern, died on
July 21. Ern was a popular attendee at Melbourne conventions and
helped Merv to set up Space Age Books. Katharine Shade, on behalf
of the Executive Committee of Star Walking notes the recent death
of one of its executive committee members, Richard Day, on May 14,
1996 who was crushed while doing repairs on his car.
