PEOPLE & PUBLISHING
Sue Isle notes "I'm writing to tell you that I am due to be
Published; this is a novel at last. The title is "Scale of
Dragon, Tooth of Wolf" and it will be published by Hodder
Headline Australia this September, one of their new teen line.
When I wrote it, I wasn't particularly aiming it at anyone,
Hodder simply decided that it fitted this category.
The book arises from a short story which I sold to She's
Fantastical, edited by Lucy Sussex and Judith Raphael Buckrich
last year, featuring the young trainee sorceress Amber in an
alternate Elizabethan England where magic exists, but also the
Inquisition who act as a sort of magical police force. If you use
magic, it had better be the right sort of magic!"
Other books due from the same publisher are Michael Prior's The
Mask of Caliban and Kerry Greenwood's Whaleroad. Arrow Books
will release Western Australian writer Tess Williams' Map of
Power in October.
Lucy Sussex notes "The Victorian writers centre features a
Saturday seminar on 17 August, 2-5 pm with Dirk Strasser and
Michael Pryor on `Writing SF and fantasy in Australia in the
1990s'. Contact the VWC for more details.
On the 11th August, 2-4 pm, writers Kerry Greenwood and Lucy
Sussex will be talking at the same venue on the topic of `Murder
in the Publishing House'."
The Doctor Who Club of Victoria is running "An Afternoon with
Lalla Ward. " on September 21 from 1pm at Melbourne University
(exact hall TBA). Lalla Ward is known in science fiction circles
for her role as Romana in Dr Who and has done the illustrations
for husband Richard Dawkins' book River Out Of Eden
Cost: $20 (DWCV member, by Aug 30);

$25 (DWCV member, after Aug 30);
