AUSSIECON THREE
Australia has won the right to hold the 1999 World Science
Fiction Convention. Australia received 808 votes to
Zagreb's 158, Alcatraz's 19, and others 10, at least one of

go to Alan Stewart and the bidding committee, plus the
numerous people, both here and overseas, who did so much to
get the convention back here.

BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
The Futurist is looking for short fiction 1,000 to 5,000
words. P.O. Box 197 Ferntree Gully Vic 3156 for further
details.
Lewis Morley & Marilyn Pride's home appeared on Ausrtalia's
Strangest Home Improvements. Lewis was shown mowing his
roof.
On returning from the Paralympics with a silver medal in the
shooting, Sydney's Jim Nomarhas was interviewed on ABC
radio's Early AM (28/8/96). Eric Lindsay reports
" Jim Nomarhas (and I hope I did spell his name correctly)
won a Silver in the Sporting Pistol (wheelchair) event at
the Paralympics. The first group of athletes returned to
Sydney on Tuesday 27th August, so Jean[Weber] and I went
along to join the crowd welcoming them back. They were
late, so we had lots of time to listen to the large, noisy
brass band the welcoming committee had organised. Jean
danced the Charlston (or something) to the music. We
attempted to embarass the red headed Carole [Nomarhas], and
pretty much succeeded in matching her face to her hair when
we produced a man sized sign welcoming Jim.
As a result of us having the only large sign on a stick, the
TV crews and radio interviewers came around us a lot, so we
naturally introduced them to Carole, who is currently
threatening to kill us. Premier Carr wandered around the
crowd, greeting all manner of people. But he pointedly
ignored us and our sign. Might have been something about it
saying "Welcome back, Jim Nomarhas, you straight shooting
son of a gun!""
Irwin Hirsh has been using the Internet facilities at his
local library. He notes " I'm glad you understood my most
recent letter in The Green Guide. I take it you missed a
letter I had in the sports section of The Sunday Age back
in May or June. I actually used the term "science fiction"
at some point in the letter.... John Foyster has published
his GUFF trip report. It is just over 100 pages long. I
received a copy last Friday. I'm not sure how much an issue
costs."
IN PRINT
Aurealis #17 has reached subscribers. It features "The
Service of the Dead" Stephen Dedman; "Watching the Soldiers"
Dirk Strasser; "Dusty Winona" Anthony Morris; "Fade to
Black" Bill Congreve; "The Morpheus Project" Brent Lillie
and "With an Enigmatic Smile" John Ezzy, plus book reviews,
Australian SF Writers' News, a Stephen Dedman column on
submitting stories and a strange piece on Foundation.
