PUBLISHING
Bob Riel notes "Not sure what's transpired since last I flung
my electrons your way. I hear from Geoffrey Dale that my story
"Letting Go" will be in Futurist #4 come April. "God In His Heaven"
appeared as scheduled in the last print issue of Tomorrow SF ; lead
story, too. Sometime this year they'll be publishing "The Gift". "God
In His Heaven" was picked up by Lexicon, a mainstream magazine out
of Brisbane with both print and electronic versions; they're at:
http://www.ozemail.com.au/~lexmag/index.html
I sold one a few weeks ago to Aboriginal SF, called "Playing
God", though they don't plan to publish it for about 18 months. Oh,
and "A Short Prayer", which was in the last Eidolon, will also be
appearing in an upcoming issue of Social Alternatives. January was
a very nice month for me as far as writing goes."
BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH Damien Broderick reviews The Science & Ethics of
Human Extinction, Our Place in the Cosmos and Quantum Technology in
The Weekend Australian Review 1-2/2/96. Peter Darling was heard on 3LO
30/1/97 in his role as Telstra representative. He was talking about
people who wanted to change carriers but use the same number. Shane
Morrissey was heard on 3LO on 5/2/97 talking about Star Wars.
AUSSIECON THREE Aussiecon Three chairman Perry Middlemiss reports
"Alan Stewart has been appointed Publicity Officer. The Board is
currently working on internal procedures, defining the positions
required for the effective running of the convention, outlining the
relevant duties of those positions and examining possible candidates.
In other words we are very much in the planning phase.
On the Publicity front, Alan Stewart and I will be at the MSFC
for their 45th anniversary to discuss the convention and to answer
questions. We also hope to make contact with all science fiction,
fantasy, horror and media fan groups in Victoria in order to make
arrangements to attend one of their regular meetings in order to do
likewise."
CONVENTION INFORMATION Lots of professional stuff coming up from the
Starland people. See the Holodiction entries below. Is TeleCon '97 a
hoax? Apart from the initial email info (as below) no one seems to
have heard of it.
