THEATRICAL
Tim Richards notes " Blak Yak Theatre (who put on a production of
'Mort' last year) is doing a stage production of Terry Pratchett's
'Guards! Guards!' next month. It's on at the following venues,
dates and times:
November 5,7,8: Don Russell Performing Arts Centre, Murdoch Road,
Thornlie. Bookings: 9493 4577
November 19,21,22,26,28,29: Princess May Theatre, Fremantle
Education Centre, cnr Parry & Cantonment Streets, Fremantle.
Bookings: 9335 5444
Blak Yak is a youngish theatre company whose most recent triumph
was the very funny one-act play 'Sex Lives of Super-Heroes'...
which I've mentioned to Grant Watson as a possible item for
Swancon 23. They did a good job of Mort... Pratchett's writing
shone through... so 'Guards! Guards!' should be fun. Tickets are
$11 / $8 by the way."
BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
Terry Dowling reviews Jack Vance's Night Lamp, Richard Harland's
The Dark Edge, Strahan & Byrne's The Year's Best Australian
Science Fiction & Fantasy Vol 1 and Paul Sammon's Future Noir:
The Making of Blade Runner in The Weekend Australian 25-26/10/97.
Sophie Masson has a letter regarding the problems mainstream
critics have with F&SF in The Weekend Australian 1-2/11/97 (It
appears to be part of an ongoing conversation.) Elizabeth Sourbut
reviews Greg Egan's Diaspora in The New Scientist 25/10/97. Alan
Stewart notes "On Between the Lines 22 October: People
commentating briefly on the Melbourne Writers' Festival: included
Jack Dann. Also two people (father and son?) couldn't get a ticket
to hear Sara Douglass speak. They were waiting outside hoping
she'd stop and sign their books. All five books held to camera
displaying covers!" Race Matthews has a letter regarding the
Victorian auditor-general in The Age 4/11/97
AUSSIECON THREE
Perry Middlemiss reports "Mark Loney has been appointed Division
head of the Publications Division and now takes control of all
Aussiecon Three publications, including: the progress reports, the
souvenir book, the pocket program book, and the At-Con
newsletter."
FAN MOVEMENTS
It appears that Narrelle Harris is making the trek to Melbourne.
(With Tim?) She posted the following " I am just in the midst of a
massive clear out of old zines in preparation for a move to
Melbourne. I have some old Trek zines and official poster
magazines. I also have one or two Professionals zines, three
issues of Eye Of Newt (original fantasy) and some of Nikki White's
Multiverse, plus film promotional material for ET and Extreme
Prejudice (with Michael Ironside).
If you're interested in any of these, please e-mail me on
parallax@iinet.net.au and make an offer."
Justin Ackroyd is gallivanting around the U.K. He reckons that
he'll manage to fit some business in too.
FANDOM NET
Andrew Johnson notes " Fandom.net is soliciting for SF&F artists
who'd like to display in our "Fandom Virtual Art Gallery"
http://www.fandom.net/Gallery
We would also like to hear from any writers who'd be
interested in a Showcase & self-service message board area. This
is after discussions with one or two US writers who've said they
get plenty of feedback from other writers but not from other
readers. So we would like to know if there is sufficient interest
to start a Net based writers group using some of the technologies
we've developed for our Conventions & Club services.' Contact
Andrew at webmaster@fandom.net or http://www.fandom.net.
Andrew also notes the following advertising service for
conventions "http://www.fandom.net/Conventions/Personal.html
This creates a html tag for you that creates a
personalised Conventions Notice board page.
It provides links back to your nominated URL, labels
determined by a 'title' you provide, and the option of setting all
colours and background image. -with exception of convention dates
in a fixed dark green."
