IN PRINT
Congratulations to Edwina Harvey who won the first prize in the
article section of the Manly Peninsula FAW Annual Literary
Competition.
CONTEST
Rob Riel notes, regarding the Science Fiction Writers of Earth
Contest.
"Judging won't be finished until the end of January, but I just
received preliminary results on submissions from organiser Gil Reis
in Fort Worth, TX:
Australia 58
UK 14
Canada 13
New Zealand 4
Japan 2
South Africa 2
Laos 1
USA Balance
So we absolutely creamed the rest of the world! Thanks to many, but
especially Rob Stephenson and Jason Bleckly of Altair, who stirred
up quite a few entries from South Australia on their own
initiative, and to Edwina Harvey, who raised SFnal consciousness in
NSW. I've read all the stories which came to the Australian address
(some went directly to the USA), and can say with some confidence
that at least 5 new writers will be published in paying markets
shortly; one already has. I reckon Australia will snag a few top
ten spots, and maybe more than a few. Some of these tales would be
very much at home in Aurealis or Eidolon. As soon as contest
results are available, I'll let you know how we washed up."
