BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH

Isobelle Carmody's Darkfall is reviewed in The Weekend Australian
Review 6-7/12/97 Lucy Sussex gets to have her say on her favourite
books for 1997 in The Sunday Age 7/12/97. Damien Broderick
nominates his five favourite science books for 1997 in The Weekend
Australian Review 13/12/97

Ian Gunn reports "The astronaut who forms the letter Y in the word
YES in the Optus TV ad is Lewis Morely in a spacesuit of his own
construction. He spent some considerable time laying on a
blue-screen table while they filmed him. He appears at other times
in the ads, but it isn't always him (they hired a really expensive
suit from America before they got Lewis' cheaper one.)"

ERIC LINDSAY HOSPITALISED
Jean Weber reports "Eric had a heart attack around 2pm on December
5th while alone at his house in Faulconbridge. He was able to walk
to the ambulance despite being in considerable pain. He apparently
had a relatively mild attack and is expected to make a full
recovery, assuming he follows instructions on his diet, exercise
and sleep. He was taken to Nepean Hospital, Penrith and will be
off work for at least a month.

For the next few weeks he'll be recovering at my house, so
I can keep an eye on him, so any snail mail should be sent to PO
Box 744, Ryde, NSW 2112, Australia. It may be 2 or 3 weeks before
we can get an email link working to his office, so any email should
be sent to my Compuserve address. Phone calls and visits are
encouraged, but not after 9 PM.

At least this didn't happen during our recent trip
to the USA! (We arrived home on Dec. 3rd.)"

"Eric's doing fine. Yesterday (9 Dec) he was
disconnected from the drip, sohe can wander around freely now. This
means he's into the "restless and bored" stage. What fun. I'll take
him one of his little computers today, so that might keep him
resting a bit while he types his trip report or something.

The ultrasound test on Monday showed a serious
reduction in volume of blood being pumped by the heart. As I
understand it, this doesn't mean anincrease in risk of further
attacks, but it may mean a noticeable reduction in fitness, such as
tiring faster, shortness of breath, etc. The specialist says most
people don't notice much if any difference, so it shouldn't make
any difference in what he can do (assuming he's sensible for a
month or twoand builds up his exercise program slowly). Stress test
today should tell more."

"Just to let you know that Eric was released from
the hospital on Thursday and is now at my place. He's entirely too
energetic for his own good, but so far (one day!) he's been
behaving himself. Does make me wish we were into bondage... those
ropes, straps and handcuffs would probably come inhandy.

He's working on a report of his hospital stay,
researches into heart attacks, conversations with the doctors and
other medical staff, and the experimental drug program he's now
participating in. Email correspondents will get their copy by
email, probably before Christmas."

AUSSIECON THREE

Nothing new to report, apart from vague rumours concerning who will
be in charge of programming.
