mortlieb@vicnet.net.au).
Postal subscriptions $6-00 for ten.(Cheques made out to Marc
Ortlieb please. Stamps accepted). Available for items of gossip.
E-mailed direct, a once off $10 fee. Free copy from aus.sf on
Internet or at http://www.vicnet.net.au/~sfoz/bullsheet.htm
IN PRINT
An absolutely stunning edition is Bruce Gillespie's SF
Commentary 76, the (belated) 30th Anniversary Issue and a George
Turner special. At $15 it's a superb buy, with an incredible
selection of Turner's critical pieces and other related writing.
Okay, so much of this has been printed elsewhere, but, if you
don't have it in the original moldering fanzines, get this
issue. (If you missed the subtle nuances above, I loved this
issue and figure that, had Bruce gotten it out in 1998 he would
have had his Hugo. So get a copy and nominate Bruce for the Hugo
next year.)
The Slow Glass Books Catalogue 141 lists Ian Irvine's The Last
Albatross (Simon & Schuster), Garth Nix The Castle (Scholastic),
Emily Rodda's Return to Del(Scholastic) and Kim Wilkins The
Resurrectionists (Harper Collins)
BULLSHEET MEDIA WATCH
The Australian Review of Books letter column is becoming almost
like a fanzine. The October 2000 issue features an involved
letter from Tess Williams and Helen Merrick's taking issue with
Margaret & Christine Wertheim's piece on Feminist SF in the
previous issue. A letter from Kate Eberle in the same issue also
notes the Wertheims' failure to bring their piece up to date.
Damien Broderick reviews books by Chris Lavers and Richard
Lewontin in the Australian Review 14/10/2000. Murray MacLachlan
notes an article on Star Wars: Episode II in Netsurfer Digest
Sunday, 1 October 2000. Irwin Hirsh noted "The 11 August edition
of the "Australian Jewish News" has a group photo which includes
Adrian Hirsh. Adrian's football team, the Ajax Under 10s, won
the premiership in their division of the Moorabbin Saints Junior
Football League. " Chris Nelson also keeps an eye on the papers
"the IT supplement of The Oz for Sept.26 included "Treknology
Takes a Bow", a short article reprinted from The Times. This
alleges that the Star Trek shows have foreseen many of today's
technogadgets. (It's actually a PR piece for a Trek display.)"
FAN FUNDS
Alan Stewart kindly imported copies of Eve Harvey's GUFF report
A Brighton Belle Meets Skippy and very fine reading it is too,
with many opportunities to play "Correct the picture caption."
Meanwhile Julian Warner notes that he has received masters of
Janice Gelb's DUFF report, that will be passed to Terry Frost
for printing and selling.
2000 DITMARS
Grant Watson & Simon Oxwell report "The paper version of the
all-new Ditmar nomination form should be arriving in letter
boxes about the place, enclosed in a Swancon 2001 Progress
Report. As we experienced some delays in distribution, we've had
to change the closing date for nominations. Nominations now must
be postmarked on or before 31st October, 2000.
An electronic copy of the Rules, with an official nomination
form, can be still found in Portable Document Format (PDF) at
http://www.swancon.iinet.net.au/awards/ditmar2000.pdf.
Some paper versions of the forms should be being sent off to
Slow Glass (Melbourne), Pulp Fiction (Brisbane) and Galaxy
(Sydney) on Monday. .

2001 NORTH-AMERICA-T0-EUROPE TAFF NOMINATIONS ARE NOW OPEN
An announcement from Vijay Bowen, North American TAFF
Administrator
I'm pleased to announce that nominations are now open for the
2001 North-America-to-Europe TAFF race. The winner will attend
Paragon, the 52nd annual British National Science Fiction
Convention (Eastercon), to be held 13-16 April 2001 in Hinckley,
Leicestershire (http://www.keepsake-web.co.uk/paragon/).
To be on the ballot, prospective candidates must be nominated by
three nominators from North America and two from Europe.
Nominations provided on paper must be signed by the nominator.
Nominations provided via email must originate from an email
address that the administrators can verify belongs to the
nominator. Prospective candidates must also post a US $20 bond,
and they or their nominators must provide a written platform not
longer than 100 words. Checks must be made out to Velma J.
Bowen, not to TAFF.
All nominations, platforms, and $20 bonds must reach North
American administrator Velma J. Bowen (address below) by
November 6, 2000. So long as at least two prospective
candidates have satisfied these requirements by that date,
distribution of ballots, in both electronic and paper form, will
begin immediately thereafter.
The voting deadline will be 31 January 2001. As usual, voting
will be via signed paper ballots only, and the deadline will be
a "received-by" deadline, not a "postmark" deadline."
As you may have heard, in addition to sending a newly-elected
Millennial Delegate to Eastercon in the stfnally fateful year
2001, TAFF also hopes to send Bill Bowers -- health permitting
-- as the Silver Anniversary delegate, twenty-five years after
the TAFF trip he won but was unable to take. We'll keep
everyone informed about this as events develop. Right now, it's
time to elect a contemporary delegate, so get those nominations,
platforms, and checks in today!

LETTERATURE
Murray MacLachlan passes judgement "I find I've accomplished a
feat in your annals: 'Murray MacLachlan passed a flier for Space
Dust, a beginners Guide to the Future performed in August by
SMB Performing Arts' (Issue 151). Let it be further recorded
that the action was painless."
Relieved of the burden of SF Chronicle, Andrew Porter notes "I
must say that when I saw those shots of Sydney on the Olympic
coverage, I felt this wave of emotion wash over me. I still want
to see Bill Wright and Merv Binns again, and especially John
Bangsund, who I've _never_ met. I will do my best to make it
there, sometime in the next couple of years."
