WILLIAM SHATNER has teamed up with Ben Folds to create "a pop driven,
typically potent collection of songs written by the duo." The album,
called "Has Been" was released through Sony on 22nd October (Reported

WILLIAM SHATNER is also among 7000 people who have signed up to be
among the first passengers for Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic
space flights commencing in 2008.(Reported in the Sun Herald, 24 Oct.)
THYLACON, the 2005 Natcon in Tasmania (q.v) recently announced they
have changed their venue to the Wrestpoint Casino Convention Centre..
POWERHOUSE MUSEUM, Sydney. The Lord of the Rings display that was
expected to open in mid-December has had its opening date put back to
late December. Check the Poweruse Museum website or fulldetails.
The SPECULATIVE LITERATURE FOUNDATION recently announced it had
awarded the firstof its annual travel grants of $600 to Nora Jemison.
Nora will use the money to research native American culture pre-
colonization for a fantasy novel and series of short stories.

DEATHS: Actor Christopher Reeve. Best known for his role as Superman,
and for raising awareness of paraplegia research, died om 9th

LEROY GORDON COOPER aka "Gordo", one of the original seven Astronauts

LYN SHAW, widow of Bob Shaw, passed away from leukemia. (Reported by

THE WALKING WOUNDED:
Sydney fan WOMBLE (aka Karen Warnock) has started chemotherapy
following surgery for breat cancer. Partner, Gerald Smith reports
that she coped better than expected with the first dose of
chemotherapy.
