THE AUSTRALIAN SHADOWS AWARD, offered annually to dark fiction by the 
Australian Horror Writers Association, is now open to submissions

is an association for fanzine producers to share their creations with 
other fanzine producers. People can join Anzapa for $30 per year, 
plus the requirement to contribute at least 6 pages of your own 
material (written specifically for the apa) every three mailings.

TRANSFORMATIVE WORKS AND CULTURES (TWC) is a new international
peer-reviewed online journal that welcomes fan-related topics and seeks to 
promote dialogue between the academic and fan communities. The TWC is 
now accepting electronic submissions of full essays through its web 
site. The first issue is expected to by published in September 08.

DEATHS:
Actor CHARLTON HESTON who appeared in Planet of the Apes, among many 
other movies including Moses and The 10 Commandments.passed away 6th 
April aged 86.

British fan and bookseller, KEN SLATER. Ken ran a bookshop (?) called 
Fantast Medway and helped Merv Binns source a lot of books for the 
Melbourne Science Fiction Club library. He had been a bookseller and 
member of fandom for over 50 years. 
He died at age 90 in February, 2008. (Reported in "Out of the Bin")

RECOVERING: 
EDWINA HARVEY is happy to report the cataract surgery went well, 
though she has since had a mild overdose of Battlestar Galactica DVDs.

being knocked down by a car at the end of a brief holiday in Tasmania.
