Robert Silverberg, Lee (Lee Shaw) Hoffman, Joe Siclari, Francine Mullen s09-002.jpeg [24KB]: The Tower of Trufandom with the Enchanted Duplicator atop (the SFSFS constructed version for the Enchanted Duplicator miniature golf course).

There is a story behind why we chose this particular mimeograph. Its earliest documented fannish use was by Bob Silverberg to pub his fanzine, Spaceship. When he decided he no longer wanted to turn the crank he gave it to Lee Hoffman who turned out many zines on it. This heritage alone, you might think, would be reason to call it an enchanted duplicator. There is an even better reason. When Lee Hoffman moved from her home to her parents' house to take care of them, she left a pile of trash to be taken away. The mimeo was abandoned in the pile. This Enchanted Duplicator had come home to her, several years later. It seems that the people who had bought her old house had pulled it from the pile and now they !were moving again. Lee came out her front door one morning and found the mimeo with a note saying they had known she didn't really want to throw the mimeograph away but had never gotten around to bringing it back to her until they were leaving town. This all occurred just shortly before Joe Siclari called her to see if she might still have an old mimeo for the Tower. Was it serendipity, fate, or Roscoe?
