Transportation - SFO

For the SFO web site click here.

San Francisco Airport opened a new international terminal in 2001. On arrival it is a bit gray and soulless, but for departing passengers it is spacious and, unusually for Californian airports, full of places to eat and shop. Here is a quick photo tour of the new facilities. Click on any photograph for a larger image.

The check-in hallThis is the British Airways area in the cavernous check-in hall of SFO international.

Beach Blanket Babylon costumeIn the center of the main check-in area is this splendid evocation of the city of San Francisco. The musical, Beach Blanket Babylon, is famous for its hats, and it would be hard to top this particular costume.

Food court 1Food court 2SFO International has two food courts groundside catering to a variety of tastes. This being an airport, the food is expensive, but it is edible.

Food storeVisitors are encouraged to go home laden down with souvenirs. Possibly the best value is this shop selling fine Californian food and wine.

Salt Peanuts muralThe departure area is decorated with a number of modern art murals. This one was inspired by a jazz tune called 'Salt Peanuts' by Dizzy Gillespie.
