Transportation - SFOFor the SFO web site click here. San Francisco Airport opened a new international terminal in 2001. On arrival it is a bit gray and soulless, but for departing passengers it is spacious and, unusually for Californian airports, full of places to eat and shop. Here is a quick photo tour of the new facilities. Click on any photograph for a larger image. This is the British Airways area in the cavernous check-in hall of SFO international. In the center of the main check-in area is this splendid evocation of the city of San Francisco. The musical, Beach Blanket Babylon, is famous for its hats, and it would be hard to top this particular costume. SFO International has two food courts groundside catering to a variety of tastes. This being an airport, the food is expensive, but it is edible. Visitors are encouraged to go home laden down with souvenirs. Possibly the best value is this shop selling fine Californian food and wine. The departure area is decorated with a number of modern art murals. This one was inspired by a jazz tune called 'Salt Peanuts' by Dizzy Gillespie.
